I am really an accidental food type. Food has been a consistent background melody in my life. I have one of those close-knit families (the kind that is all up in your business in the most nosy and loving way ) where food rules the family gatherings.

  • From my father, I get a love of everything spicy. What can I say? The Mexican blood is strong in this one.
  • From my mother, I get a touch of quirky and the tendency to hide chocolate around the house.
  • From my grandmother ‘Lambie’ (who is no lamb, but an amazing person despite the Russian-tough-gal thing), I get a flair for the dramatic and a passion for experimenting in the kitchen. I blame (or bless) her for never actually being able to follow a recipe verbatim.

I have worked as an event planner for years. Planning a party, watching it come together and seeing everyone enjoy the food, the music, the ambiance and walk away talking about it is one of the joys of my professional life.  I get the same joy out of planning a dish – watching it come together, planning the accoutrements and seeing people I love enjoy it and talk about it down the road.

This is where the foodist in me comes out to play.  I’m always curious about food, interested in new ways to prepare old classics and can’t resist a bit of mad-scientist experimentation.

I am also a traveler at heart, though a reluctantly stationary nomad. When we travel, our trips center around food. I am lucky to be married to an
amazing man who shares my wandering heart.

So, I present for you this (shaken-not-stirred) blend of a blog – a compilation of travels, food, family recipes, and a sprinkle of humor. Like
the meals I present to the darlings in my life, I look forward to sharing my words with you. My hope is that on this wandering journey, you’ll come to the table and share right back.
So, do tell your favorite food memory… I’d love to hear from you.
